Abstract: Concrete is a widely used construction material When it is loaded the strength of concrete is higher in compression than when it is loaded in tension This study has been conducted to enhance the ductility of concrete by the addition of hybrid fiber which is blending two or more different types of fiber in the concrete Utilizing two or more different types of fiber will have the advantage of one type of fiber could enhancement with what is deficient in the other type of fiber The incorporation of hybrid fibers which is having higher mechanical characteristics will play important role in resisting the crack formation effectively at the micro level and macro level thereby increasing the performance of concrete The overall aim of this work is focused to develop the hybrid fiber reinforced concrete having improved strength characteristics structural behaviour and structural performance by the addition of optimum dosage level of hybrid fiber In this work it is proposed to use hybrid fibers of two different types one of the types is Steel fiber which is a metallic fiber and the other one is a synthetic based Polyvinyl Alcohol fiber In that the presence of steel fiber having high tensile strength and Youngs modulus imparts high tensile strength flexural strength and compressive strength to the concrete The steel fiber acts as a crack arrestor such that it prevents the development of crack at macro level The presence of synthetic based Polyvinyl Alcohol PVA fiber which is more flexible and ductile arrest the small crack opening and thereby increases the strength and toughness of concrete newline
