Abstract: Nonlinear optics is an active field of research on developments in the modern technology for lasers optical data storage sensors photonics image processors optical switching frequency shifters optical modulators etc Designing of new photonic devices for the transmission of information led to the search for new materials with nonlinear optical properties It is been a challenge before the young researcher to grow good quality crystals of greatly efficient materials Metals with organic ligands have possessed high nonlinear efficiency among the semi organic materials The present thesis deals with the growth and characterization of some metal organic complexes like Antimony potassium tartrate and some organic ligand thiourea complex crystals doped with LAlanine and magnesium acetate respectively The thesis starts with a brief overview on various crystal growth techniques the theory behind non linear optics the literature survey of nonlinear optical crystals and brief introduction of ion implantation technique The fundamentals of various characterization techniques used to study the properties of the grown crystals has been discussed in the second chapter A detailed study of growth and characterization of Antimony potassium tatarate APT single crystal has been discussed in the third chapter APT was grown by solvent evaporation method The complex was found to crystallize in orthorhombic geometry with the non centrosymmetric space group Pca21 newline
