Abstract: newlineElectrical networks across the globe are gearing towards environmental, friendly operation with many renewable sources being introduced Renewable energy sources have attracted wide attention because of their abundant nature and wind energy source is one among them. An efficient wind energy system mostly depends on an efficient topology of converters and controllers used in the energy conversion system Generally wind energy conversion system offers a wide range of topologies with various types of electrical generators and power converters Among the generators variable speed micro wind turbines based on a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator PMSG are preferred because of less power consumption low weight and high performance An entire wind energy conversion system comprises of PMSG three phase diode bridge rectifier DC DC converter single phase inverter step- up transformer and load Converters and their controllers are the primary components in the wind energy conversion system to obtain maximum output power under variable wind speed conditions which results in an efficient system In the conventional conversion systems due to the variation in wind speed the output from the converter has unwanted residual periodic variation of DC This ripple in output current can be significant in decrement in the efficiency of the system The controllers in this system have a primary role to control the converters to reduce the current ripple also to achieve the desired output voltage attaining an improved power factor in the system.
