Abstract: newlineThe installed capacity of wind power generation increases every year around the world The transmission line operators create the facility to evacuate power to load centers Mostly series compensation is used to increase the power transfer capacity and also for enhancing transient stability The wind generators may interact with series compensated network and exchange the energy below the power frequency which is represented as subsynchronous resonance The subsynchronous oscillations are due to induction generator effect torsional interaction and transient torque amplification This thesis explores the possibility of occurrence of Subsynchronous Resonance SSR in a system comprising a conventional induction generatorbased Type 2 wind farm connected to a series compensated line The induction generator is equipped with Rotor Resistance Controller RRC which cuts in when wind velocity exceeds the rated Frequency scanning is a technique that is widely used for preliminary analysis The frequency scan technique computes the equivalent resistance and inductance looking into the network stator winding of particular generator Eigenvalue analysis is employed to evaluate systemwind farm interaction in series compensated network A detailed mathematical model of Wind Turbine Generator WTG series compensated transmission line wind farm electrical network and shunt capacitors is presented for eigenvalue analysis The test systems considered are IEEE First Benchmark Model FBM and IEEE second benchmark model for subsynchronous resonance with synchronous generator replaced by aggregated wind farm
