Abstract

Electricity is the essential requirement for the modern society An increase in demand for electricity has made the electric utilities to plan for meeting the future demand growth Hence operating the power generating systems more efficiently and economically plays an important role Consequently power system planning is to design using optimal planning techniques to achieve the demand growth It is necessary to find the best generation capacity expansion alternative for the power system in order to meet the demand growth Now Generation Capacity Expansion Planning GCEP plays a key role in power system planning that determines the kind of generating system which are to be commissioned and at what time horizon are to be committed over a long term planning This study extensively explores the power deficit caused in the State of Tamil Nadu TN To solve this problem GCEP and Demand Side Management DSM strategies are adopted With these strategies reliability of the TN power system is tried to improve as much as possible Wien Automatic System Planning IV WASP IV package is used to analyse the reliability of the considered power system along with economic and environmental pollutant factors. newline
