Abstract: | The objective of this work is to synthesis and characterization of High Entropy Alloys HEA reinforced with aluminum alloy AA6061 Metal Matrix Composite MMC Both aluminum alloy matrix and high entropy alloy reinforcement were developed by mechanical alloying route and composites were produced by single acting uniaxial die compaction through Powder Metallurgy P/M route Commercial elemental powders were procured from Kemphasol Ltd Mumbai India and Loba chemical Mumbai India In the present investigation the matrix system was followed by weight percentage and quinary high entropy alloy reinforcement in the constituent order of chromium copper iron manganese and nickel CrCuFeMnNi were developed by equiatomic composition The total mass of the alloying systems were determined by the aspect ratio of the pellets and the number of pellets required The elements of both matrix and reinforcements were subjected to mechanical alloying process on twin cylinder vertical axis planetary high energy ball mill INSMART SYSTEM Hyderabad India The mechanical alloying process were carried out up to 40 hrs with Ball to Powder Ratio BPR as 10:1 at a milling speed of 300 rpm with 15 min as dwell period Toluene was used as Process Control Agent PCA to control the processing temperature Powder characteristics such as apparent density tap density flow rate angle of repose were studied in the interval of 10 hrs Alloy confirmations were examined by powder XRay Diffraction test XRD Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy EDS and Scanning Electron Microscope SEM were also used to characterize the alloy powder after mechanical alloying. newline |
