Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an ancient metabolic disorder dating from 1500 BC. It is newlinebasically characterized by chronic hyperglycemia associated with disturbances in metabolism of newlinecarbohydrates, proteins and lipids, as a result of absolute or relative deficiency of insulin. newlineIt damages tissue repair processes and cause stomatologic problems. There is a higher newlineprevalence and severity of oral pathologies. Frequent determination of glucose concentration in newlineDM patients is an important tool in diabetes management; this requires repetitive venipuncture, newlinelancing and finger bleeding.
