Abstract: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an ancient metabolic disorder dating from 1500 BC. It is newlinebasically characterized by chronic hyperglycemia associated with disturbances in metabolism of newlinecarbohydrates, proteins and lipids, as a result of absolute or relative deficiency of insulin. newlineIt damages tissue repair processes and cause stomatologic problems. There is a higher newlineprevalence and severity of oral pathologies. Frequent determination of glucose concentration in newlineDM patients is an important tool in diabetes management; this requires repetitive venipuncture, newlinelancing and finger bleeding.
