Mobile Ad Hoc Networks MANETs is a collection of mobile nodes characterized by self organizing in nature infrastructure less with a dynamic topology and easy for deployment Nodes in the network communicate directly with the receiver if they are within the communication range The cooperation of the intermediate nodes is sought otherwise Optimal paths called routes are used for forwarding messages and the rules that govern the forwarding is called as Routing Protocols Many routing protocols exist on routing the information about the network Nodes have a limited processing power battery power and communication power Consequently they aim at conserving these restrained resources while communicating The absence of infrastructure and the dynamic nature of MANET makes it vulnerable to security invasion A distinct node or a group of malicious nodes may enter the network and collaboratively disrupt the network Based on the techniques these intruders employ the attack may be termed as the Grey hole attack Wormhole attack Black hole attack Sync attack Denial of Service DoS attack Distributed Denial of Service DDoS attack The assaults are staged based on the vulnerabilities of the underlying protocols used by the member nodes in the network Many secure routing protocols were proposed to mitigate the aggressionYet the smartness of the attackers persists to the extent that it even challenges the identification of the existence of a threat newline
