dc.description.abstractWireless Communication is the most emergent prolific and preferred mode of communication because of the mobility and flexibility it offers This has dramatically increased the wide spread usage of communication services Research efforts generally focus on improving the Quality of Services QoS offfered to the users However most of the recent research efforts have disregarded the implication of wireless networks environmental responsibility namely energy efficiency and environmental impact Recent studies reveal that accumulation of greenhouse gases is higher than the predicted levels and the exponential growth of wireless communication infrastructure commissioning and their operation are major contributors This increases the environmental concerns leading to the motivation for designing green communication networks The objective of Green mobile communication networks is to achieve desired Quality of Service QoS using limited resources and cause less pollution to the environment in terms of reduced carbon footprint and electromagnetic pollution To provide efficient services green mobile communication networks should support diverse QoS requirements via optimal resource allocation such as subcarrier radio resources efficient power allocation and packet scheduling subject to environmental constraints Optimal resource allocation is however limited by the modular nature of layering model which does not exploit cooperation among layers This lack of cooperation limits the performance of the system and hence Cross-Layer design is adopted in the present work. newline
