Abstract: | Location Based Services LBS make use of geographical position of a smart phone or any mobile device to provide security or entertainment It has reached large popularity in recent days and it is still growing Location based advertisement assistive health care giving information about nearest ATM or hospital or retail and assert tracking are some of the areas where LBS may be employed Sometimes it may allow the customers to check in for nearest restaurant petrol bunk or events where may people walk in LBS use smart phones Global Positioning Systems GPS technology to locate a person in an outdoor environment GPS is fixed in smart phones and phone users can get their accurate location according to the function of GPS receiver This is the primary reason for the demand evolution of LBS in outdoor Alternative to GPS Indoor Positioning Systems IPS complement to GPS but cannot be global but can be more effective and accurate in an indoor environment Even though GPS is a major positioning system in an outdoor environment with high accuracy it will not work in indoor as signal attenuation is the problem Thus LBS for indoor mobile devices is a new research and is growing in interest Nowadays many IPS systems have been proposed to provide solution for positioning and navigation Wireless Local Area Network WLAN called Wi Fi is widespread in urban scenario to enable broad band communication WLAN based positioning is a matured one due to its easy access availability in all mobile devices and simplicity newline |
