Abstract: Repair retrofitting and rehabilitation of existing concrete structures have become a large part of the construction activity in Construction industries By some times the money spent on retrofitting of existing structures in recent years has exceeded when compare to that of spent on new structures Bridge failures in recent earthquakes have attracted the attention of the engineering community to the large number of bridges built before 1970 which had substandard seismic design details As a consequence a substantial research effort has been put into seismic retrofit of bridge structures During the past earthquakes all over the world many existing reinforced concrete structures were found to be destroyed due to the inadequacy of seismic design It is found that the main reason for the failure of columns is the insufficient shear strength and ductility of structures Therefore improvement of seismic performance in such structures with consideration for shear capacity and ductility is vitally required Thus retrofitting of reinforced concrete columns is significant for achieving the required strength and ductility This thesis focuses on assessing the Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Confined Columns with helical ties The various parameters such as ultimate load carrying capacity stress strain behavior ductility characteristics were to be investigated in a view to establish an effective R C Jacketing confinement technique. newline
