Abstract: | The beginning of twenty first century stirred the female work force in India with a tremendous resurgence Women are filling positions in hospitality banking insurance health market research and education The overall statistic too indicate that more and more women are seeking to enter workforce Dissimilar to the traditional industries banking is a typical example of modern service industry and it has been growing rapidly in India During the past decade the banking sector had undergone rapid and striking changes like policy changes due to globalization and liberalization increased competition due to the entrance of more private corporate sector banks downsizing introduction of new technologies etc due to these changes the employees in the banking sector s experiencing a high level of stress The implications of the above said transformations have affected the social economical and psychological domains of the bank employees and their relation There has been significant increase in womens employment in the Indian financial sector since the 1950s in both public sector companies and private and foreign controlled banks The increase has been most marked in the metropolitan cities By the mid 1960s the number of women entering bank service increased significantly intensifying in the 1970s and early 1980s Bank job is a very attractive one for women since it is one of the high paying jobs and carries some status. newline |
