Abstract: | Purpose of production scheduling is to find the job sequence in such a way that one or more objectives are optimized Most of the research articles are addressing the identical parallel machine scheduling problem with respect to techniques and performance measures The most widely considered performance measures are makespan maximum completion time of all jobs total tardiness and number of tardy jobs Makespan is related to improving system utilization while the remaining measures are related to job due date of systems Makespan in scenario criteria plays a vital role in order to amplify the productivity and maximum utilization of resources modern manufacturing operations and on time delivery is a significant factor towards realizing satisfaction of customers and management The problem with due date related objectives have also received considerable attention in recent years due to the introduction of new methods of inventory management based on principles such as just in time JIT principle In the JIT system jobs are to be completed in the last minute which leads to scheduling problems which in turn affects the production cost In todays competitive and dynamic environment cost of production must be reduced in order to survive which can be done by effective utilization of all the resources and completion of production in shorter duration to increase the productivity and simultaneously considering the due dates of the job A minimization of makespan with not meeting the due date is no use for firms and would incur loss of market competitiveness and loss of customers newline |
