dc.description.abstract | Peand#347;and#299; are nothing but the saand#7747;ghand#257;ta bheda of mand#257;and#7747;sa dhand#257;tu. Suand#347;ruta has mentioned the number of peand#347;and#299; and also gave the development, distribution, function and types of peand#347;and#299;. Suand#347;ruta saand#7747;hitand#257;, considered as most versatile for and#347;and#257;rand#299;ra sthand#257;na, only in few instances dictated the numbers, identification and difference between the male and female, Strand#299;and#7751;and#257;m tu viand#7747;and#347;atiradhikand#257; peand#347;and#299; is one among this. These viand#7747;and#347;ati peand#347;and#299; are located in stana and yoni pradeand#347;a. The boon for a strand#299; is garbha dhand#257;raand#7751;a and stanyapand#257;na of new born and obviously these peand#347;and#299; plays a major role in the fulfillment of above mentioned functions. newlineIn modern anatomy muscles are studied as a separate branch myology . Here also classification and distribution of muscles has been given but the description of about these twenty extra peand#347;and#299; in females is not found anywhere in the literature. A problem is evident when scholars of Ayurveda feel that Ayurveda and#257;cand#257;rya have not covered this point. It is very important to note that no author or commentators of and#257;yurvedic literature have given a satisfactory explanation of the twenty extra peand#347;and#299; in females. We feel that this can be a point of research and it is the need of time to develop this knowledge further, the detail description of these extra female peand#347;and#299; will be helpful in describing labor, caesarian section and other pelvic disorders. Comparative study between facts of Ayurveda and modern anatomy were done by visualization with the help of dissection study. In the modern literature the distribution is not given as such but the modern anatomist have described the muscles of perineum, uterus, vagina, fallopian tube and breast separately. They have also described the ligaments which support the uterus. newlineKeeping all these aspects in mind we had made an effort to identify these extra peand#347;and#299; during dissection, if possible, and try to correlate those peand#347;and#299; with the muscles of perineum, uterus, vagina, fallopian tube and breast mentioned in modern literature. newline newline | - |
