Abstract: Wireless Sensor Network WSN is a network of sensor nodes that play a vital role in sensing the unattended environment In recent years for most of the applications the inclusion of sensor nodes has become one of the basic requirements One can easily and effectively gather and analyse the environment with the help of the sensors The notable characteristics of the sensor nodes are that it can be deployed easily even in the hazardous situation The sensors are tiny and energy constraint devices which are battery operated and they cannot be rechargeable or replaceable easily Also they are time consuming Some of the factors which influence the normal functioning of the networks are coverage energy bandwidth etc If a sensor loses its energy the lifetime of the network will be reduced It is always necessary to retain the energy of the network Many research activities are carried out in the aspect of conserving the energy of the network by properly restricting the utilization of energy whenever not necessary The main objective of this work is to reduce the energy consumption of the network by switching the sensor which is identified as redundant to off or on state selectively WSN has a wide area of applications The WSN may take different forms such as flat or hierarchical fixed or random distribution of the sensors and involvement of static or mobile sensors in the network based on the underlying applications The type and the sensing profile of the sensors involved in the variety of applications differ newline
