Abstract

Cloud computing is a very popular distribution model for secure information services over the internet The benefits of cloud computing include the ability to gain access to ones data from anywhere and not having to worry about backups or setting up disaster recovery and business continuity centres However cloud computing raises concerns on how cloud service providers user organizations and governments should handle such information and interactions Enterprises are migrating to the cloud environment at a faster pace Security of information that is being processed by applications and ultimately getting stored in the data centres is a big concern of this newly evolving environment Cloud computing security is an evolving sub domain of computer security network security and more broadly information security Cloud security is not to be confused with security software offerings that are cloud-based The scope of cloud security spans across all three service delivery models deployed in any of the four cloud deployment models private public hybrid and community cloud exhibiting the five essential characteristics of the cloud It is this span of the scope of security in the cloud that makes it very important and at the same time much complicated The wide scope of the security thus has multiple facets including but not limited to security related application data transmission data storage authentication and authorization network virtualization and physical hardware This raises multiple questions with respect to each of these facets The main issues are related to loss of privacy and business value of private data by the adoption of cloud services by consumers and businesses With the rise of cloud computing service based computing is becoming the major paradigm Either to use the cloud platform services or to use existing services hosted on clouds users will have to export their private data to the service provider newline
