Abstract: | A country s development is mainly determined by the increase in the growth of industrialization and agricultural production. India ranks 124 out of 132 countries in the environmental performance index in 2012 reported by the researchers of Yale and Columbia University when associated with world Economic forum Such development in industries and agricultural production resulted in production of excess amount of toxic wastewater containing pollutants Dyes are the major source of organic pollutant contaminating the living environment Water pollution caused by the dyeing industries has become a matter of great concern since large amount of such toxic dye effluents are discharged into the environment in recent times These dyes effluents are highly toxic in nature due to the presence of suspended solids COD dyes chemicals and high concentrations of toxic heavy metals such as Cu Cd Zn Ni and Pb These dye effluents are carcinogenic mutagenic and toxic when discharged into environment making it unfit for drinking and irrigational purposes Some of the conventional methods used for the purification of wastewater are chemical precipitation coagulation solvent extraction ionexchange reverse osmosis and adsorption But all the above mentioned methods have own merits and demerits. newline |
