Abstract: | Treatment of pulp and paper mill wastewater has been of the intense research because of the huge water consumption and discharge of recalcitrant organic pollutants along with the wastewater Without proper treatment the pulp and paper mill wastewater becomes severe threat to aquatic environment In order to improve the discharge quality of wastewater and make the treated wastewater for reuse an advanced treatment is required Advanced Oxidation Processes AOPs are considered to be the most promising technology and among AOPs solar photo Fenton and solar photocatalysis are known for their effectiveness in treating complex organic pollutants In this study seven treatment strategies viz solar photo Fenton SPF solar photocatalytic SPC combined solar photo Fenton and photocatalytic process SPF PC biological process coupling of solar photo Fenton followed by biological process coupling of solar photocatalytic followed by biological process coupling of combined solar photo Fenton and photocatalytic with biological process were studied The central composite design was used to investigate the effect of operational parameters The general advantages of the combined solar photo Fenton and photocatalytic process are shorter treatment time and more efficient reagent consumption Though AOPs are effective for oxidation of recalcitrant compounds their operating costs are high In order to reach the required quality level of the final effluent at an affordable price with short reaction time the best treatment system can be obtained by coupling AOP with the biological process newline |
