In the present qualitative study, Achievement Orientation Model is effectively used to recognize, understand and reverse underachievement among gifted underachievers. The study used multi-case study approach followed by cross-case comparisons for exploring the causes of underachievement and also to adapt Achievement Orientation Model by Del Siegle and D.Besty McCoach for reversing underachievement among gifted students. Major findings revealed that self-efficacy, goal valuation, environmental perception and self regulation influence motivation, which in turn leads to academic achievement. Individualized Reversal Programme was adapted for increasing students confidence to learn (Self-Efficacy), making learning more meaningful (Goal Valuation), building trust relationships (Environmental Perceptions) and developing study skills (Self-Regulation). The study has implications for parents, teachers, counsellors, researchers and policy makers to help gifted underachievers to recognize that they have the potential talents and abilities which can be developed fully. newline
