Abstract: | HAp Mg incorporated and Zn incorporated HAp were synthesized by microwave irradiation method The structural properties and chemical composition of the synthesized powder have been studied using XRD FT IR HRTEM FESEM and EDAX FT IR spectra have been recorded for the synthesized HAp Mg HAp and Zn HAp and the characteristic sharp bands present around 1026 cm1 1032 cm1 and 1028 cm1 correspond to the stretching mode of phosphate The bands present at 607 cm1 and 563 cm1 for HAp and at 609 cm1 and 563 cm1 for Mg HAp and at 608 cm1 and 553 cm1 for Zn HAp are due to bending mode of P O bonds in phosphate group Thus the presence of PO4 3 group in HAp is almost confirmed from FT IR studies The XRD pattern of the as synthesized HAp Mg HAp and Zn HAp nanoparticles shows that the peaks in the diffraction pattern are in good agreement with the standard data for HAp JCPDS ICDD card No 09 0432 The diffraction peaks are sharp and narrow implying that the synthesized HAp exhibits good crystallinity The surface morphology of the HAp Mg HAp and Zn HAp nanoparticles have been studied using scanning electron microscope The scanning electron microscope image of HAp showed nanorods of length 200nm and diameter of 20 30nm with almost uniform size distribution The scanning electron microscope image of Mg HAp shows that nanorods of length 100nm and diameter 20 30nm have been formed This reduction of length of Mg HAp nanorods when compared to the pure HAp is due to the fact that Mg inhibits HAp crystallization in solution The incorporation of zinc into HAp lattice has increased the length of nanorods and nanorods with length 500nm and diameter 50 60nm have been obtained EDAX pattern indicates the presence of Ca Mg Zn P O and C in the respective synthesized nanoparticles newline |
