dc.description.abstract | Nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary area of research which provide major contributions to various fields such as energy environment and biomedical in recent years After Feynmans lecture tremendous efforts have been taken to revolutionize the preparation methods of nanomaterials and functionality of nano devices Nanomaterials have interesting properties namely surface to volume ratio and quantum confinement effect The surface to volume ratio increases when particle size reduced to nanoscale Consequently the chemical reactivity increased and the physical properties of the materials also modified Moreover quantum confinement QC effect plays a key role in deciding the unusual properties of the materials Metal oxide semiconductors are widely used in catalysis solar cells Li ion battery electrodes supercapacitors dye degradation cosmetics paints sensors drug delivery and as antimicrobial agents Bare metal oxide semiconductors are not sufficient for many practical applications In addition most of the metal oxide semiconductors have wide band gap which can be tuned easily by adapting various methods such as metal doping metal nonmetal co doping and formation of nanocomposites NCs Among them the NCs provide synergistic effects as they possess the properties of constituent materials Core shell structured NCs attracted researchers attention in recent years among various types of NCs Titanium dioxide TiO2 is one of the versatile metal oxide semiconductors After Fujishima and Honda discovered the splitting of water by using TiO2 it become extensively investigated for various applications such as solar cells dye sensitized solar cells Li ion battery electrodes sensors water treatment self cleaning antimicrobial and antibacterial activities Moreover TiO2 has multi skilled properties namely wide band gap non toxic easy availability low cost chemical inertness biocompatibility high refractive index and photo activity Bare TiO2 absorbs substantially the ultraviolet UV region of the electromagnetic spectrum due to its wide band | |
