Abstract: Auditory impairment is one of the common sensory deficits that occur in humans. The consequence of hearing loss often leads to impairment in communication and reading skill. This thesis evaluates visual perceptual skill and attentive skill of both normal school going children and hearing impaired children and aim to pursue the underlying difference in the visual perception and attention that can explain the reading skill of hearing impaired children. newlineVision screening was conducted in a hearing impaired school. Out of a total of 118 hearing impaired students that were screened, 30 hearing impaired students (age 9 to 12) were enrolled in the study (profound hearing impairment, hearing impairment lt 90 DB), along with 30 normal hearing students from local school were enrolled in the study. 60 students were chosen on the basis that they were free from ocular and systemic pathologies. We have used several commercially available techniques to assess the various aspects of vision. Visual perceptual skill was evaluated with Test of visual perception Skill (TVPS) 3rd edition and Beery Visual-Motor Integration (VMI) 5th edition. Visual attention skill was evaluated with the help of Symbol Digit Modality Test (SDMT) and Attention blink by Brainbaseline I-Pad App. Reading speed was investigated by Pratham-ASER (Annual Status of Education Report) English reading tool. Reading comprehension by ADR I Net Dynamic reader (Automatically determines the beginning reading grade level). Eye movement with Gaze point and visual search by Brainbaseline I Pad App. newline newline
