Abstract: | Tracking is defined as the determination of coordinates of position and orientation of newlinephysical objects in real environment. Tracking is one of the fundamental challenges newlinethat are prevailing in Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) research newlinetoday. Registration and sensing of errors are two of the biggest problems in building newlineeffective VR and AR applications. Accuracy and robustness are the parameters which newlinedetermine the efficiency of a given tracking technique. An individual tracking newlinetechnique is not accurate and robust enough to meet the stringent requirements of VR newlineand AR applications. Hybrid tracking techniques are most promising way to deal with newlinethe challenges of tracking in VR and AR applications. Hybrid tracking refers to the newlineuse of combination of multiple tracking techniques in order to make a sensor network newlinefor robust tracking and ubiquitous computing. It gives the benefits of both the newlinetechniques, while the complementary nature of sensor helps to overcome sensorspecific deficiencies. Combining two different techniques, or even two types of the newlinesame techniques, has also its merits. Although, hybrid tracking increases the newlinecomplexity, it can readily improve the efficiency of VR and AR applications. In order newlineto check the impact of hybrid tracking on VR and AR applications, 2 applications newlinebased on VR and 2 applications based on AR are designed and developed. newline |
