Abstract: | Cloud computing has revolutionized the information technology industry as it delivers scalable, elastic, on-demand and utility based computing features to end users. The cloud data centers use huge amount of newlineelectrical energy and deteriorate the atmosphere by releasing harmful newlinegases. For sustainable future, energy-efficient utilization of resources newlineneeds sincere attention. Virtual machine consolidation techniques provide an effective solution for decreasing consumption of energy by newlinecloud computing data centers. Although it is an active research area and newlinethere are many solutions for achieving energy efficiency, yet existing newlineapproaches for virtual machine consolidation ignore the service level newlineagreement violations while reducing energy consumption and are not newlinegeneric in the sense that they do not work for both CPU intensive and newlineinput/output intensive workloads. Moreover, they only consider single newlinecriteria related to CPU utilization. The real challenge is to maintain a newlinesatisfactory performance level (Quality of Service) without raising energy consumption. newline |
