Abstract: | In recent years demands for lightweight materials in place of conventional materials have raised with no compromise in the functioning and performance of the component In this scenario polymer matrix composites gained more attention for its light weight high strength to weight ratio good strength good resistance to corrosion good resistance to wear etc The polymer matrix composites consist of reinforcements in the form of fibers like glass carbon etc and in the form of particles like silicon carbide aluminium oxide carbon graphite etc The purpose of reinforcements is to augment the mechanical and tribological properties of the composites The Polymer matrix composites have wide applications in automotive aeronautical marine sports goods etc The application varies from the physical structures to the small elements which undergoes relative motion with the mating parts either with similar or metal counterparts Hence raises a need for the study on tribological behavior of the polymer matrix composites and also to optimize the wear performance This will help in understanding the wear performance and thus manufacturers can develop polymer matrix composites tailoring to the needs for any specific application newline |
