Abstract: | Aluminum alloy AA based composites are broadly employed in the transport aerospace marine automobile and mineral processing industries because of their superior characteristics like hardness tensile strength and excellent microstructural properties The silicon carbide aluminum oxide titanium di boride and graphite are used in the form of particles or whiskers as reinforcement material to improve the mechanical characteristics of aluminum alloy further In this work Al6061 AA was prepared by stir casting method with the dimension of 300 200 30 mm rectangular shape The cast ingot is cut into two parts one part is used for ascast and the other part is used for heat treatment through solutioning temperature at 530 C with time for 4 h and then aging at175 C for 8 h in an electrical muffle furnace The specimens were subjected to various tests after being machined carefully as per the standards On the as cast and heat treated samples were trusted for hardness and tensile test Initially the hardness and tensile strength values of Al6061 AA were compared with Al6061TiB2 metal matrix composites MMCs The results reveal that the hardness and tensile strength values for as cast and heat treated sample for 4 h specimen ofAl6061TiB2 MMCs is higher than that of Al6061 AA. newline |
