Magnesium alloys exceptional strength to weight ratio has resulted in their extensive utilization in different industries Specifically numerous aircraft automobile and electronics companies are focusing on products manufactured with magnesium alloys This preference for magnesium alloys is due to their high strength low weight high thermal conductivity and good electromagnetic protecting capability The application of magnesium alloys is extensively increasing Consistent manufacturing processes are needed to develop high quality products To ensure the good quality of a product appropriate machining parameters are to be chosen with respect to the machine tool Surface roughness is an indispensable requirement for examining the surface quality of a product The selection of process parameters for machining is very difficult to determine in instances involving a combination of newer material and cutting tool in such cases the process planner has to conduct numerous trial runs to determine the most favorable machining parameters and their optimum levels which result in high cost and consume more time To reduce the time and cost in selecting the process parameters for machining modern materials optimization is needed The present research work focuses on the application of evolutionary algorithms in the optimization of machining parameters in conventional and unconventional machining technologies like turning end milling and wire cut electrical discharge machining on a modern material magnesium alloy AZ91D to achieve excellence in the surface finish in a cost effective manner newline
