dc.description.abstractThis research work mainly focuses on the selection of appropriate power rating of the electric motor and selecting suitable high conversion ratio power converter for the Electric Vehicle which is proposed for the rural area. Heavy Vehicle transportation in Rural Area decreases the load factor and the transportation efficiency due to less number of passengers. To improve the transportation efficiency and to minimize the size of the propulsion system in the Electric vehicle, a pancake shaped Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) Brushless DC motor is proposed in this research. Permanent Magnet Brushless DC motor (PMBLDC) is widely used to drive Electric Vehicles with regenerative braking. The conventional motor can satisfy the requirements of Electric Vehicle (EV), but it occupies alarge space, so the proposed motor should be of shorter axial length. The pancake shape of AFPM motor perfectly satisfies the requirement of shorter axial length which is preferred for Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) applications. The intermittent periodic duty class has been considered, to choose the appropriate motor rating based on its duty cycle pattern. The Equivalent Power Method (EPM) is applied to calculate the power rating of the motor. For the power rating of 5.5kW, a Single Sided Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) Brushless DC Motor (BLDC) is designed using Finite Element Analysis software. Dimensions were determined for the power rating of 5.5kW and modelled using the software RMxprt. After getting the solution for the parametric analysis, the mathematical model of the machine is created automatically in the package called Simplorer newline
