Optimization of casting process parameters using taguchi method and various algorithms

Abstract

Casting process involves interaction of many process parameters This study aims at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing process by optimizing these parameters Die casting of aluminium silicon copper alloy crank case left cover is selected for the study Casting defects occur during casting impede the efficiency of the manufacturing and hence the factors affecting the quality of casting are considered Variables causing the casting defects and these interactions are analyzed using iteration and Design of Experiments DOE The main defects viz blow holes misrun and micro porosity are analyzed in this study This research work is carried out to optimize process parameters to control casting defects by using Design of Experiments Taguchi Genetic Algorithm GA Particle Swarm Optimization PSO and Damage Estimation Technique DET A software framework has been developed to identify an optimum parameter for different types of casting problems in manufacturing systems so as to meet out the objectives. newline
