Abstract: | Cyber crime is concerned with a malicious attack such as spamming, phishing or hacking in the cyber-space to commit an offense The computer systems are cleverly compromised and exploited thus resulting in heavy financial loss which may reach $20 Trillion. The most recognized form of cyber attack is Email Spamming as it consumes the cyber resources such as memory space, processing power, network bandwidth, traffic misuse etc to a greater extend. Spam emails are commercial unsolicited emails that are massively sent with different intentions Studies prove that over 85 percent of the current email is spam Several approaches proposed so far by researchers against email spamming did not provide a thorough and effective solution The existing detection approaches in the field of Email Spamming have certain main limitations Firstly isolation of spam emails from non spam ones has not been effectively done This has lead to increasing number of false positives and false negatives thereby causing a decrease in the detection accuracy Secondly the time taken for detection of spam emails increases with increase in the amount of received emails Thirdly the detection filters are deployed at the server side which makes the server overloaded while servicing huge tasks Therefore efficient collaborative detection schemes are essential for detecting and mitigating spam emails and their origin at the receiver side in a distributed fashion at the early stage through effective response mechanisms. newline |
