Abstract: This research work has been carried out with an ultimate aim to protect the environment from the negative impact of corona discharge from high voltage transmission line A solution is meted out to reduce the corona discharge from the surface of ACSR conductor by coating the conductor with Nanocomposite Effect of MWCNT in minimising corona discharge is studied by loading in different wt with Polyimide The first step of Nanocomposite synthesis is to activate MWCNT by acid treatment Further activated MWCNT stretches carboxyl group COOH to enhance the bonding with polyimide PI The polyimide PI based nanocompositesis reinforced with MWCNTs COOH in different wt 1wt 3wt and 10wt by insitu process and is tested for physical chemical and dielectric properties FTIR spectra of PI/MWCNT samples ensured a strong covalent bond between PI and MWCNT The SEM analysis of samples ensured homogeneous dispersion of MWCNT in the polyimide matrix XRD of PI/MWCNT with various concentration of MWCNT showed peaks at 25 75 and 4359 representing the presence of MWCNT and a peak at 17 56 corresponding to PI intensity TGA result ascertains that weight loss of material does not show any significant change upto 520 C The dielectric characteristics are also studied using impedance analyser as per ASTM D5568 standard It is observed that permittivity and conductivity of the samples is improved for higher weight percentage of MWCNT newline
