Abstract: | Research on terahertz technology is getting attraction by many researchers around the world due to its application in diverse fields Terahertz is the spectral band lies between 100 GHz and 30 THz is initially used in astronomy and other analytical sciences. With the recent advancements it has been applied to many other sectors include communication medicine security non destructive evaluation pharmaceutical environmental industries sensing and so forth Recently research on the design and development of passive components such as frequency selective surface FSS metamaterial and an antenna are being carried out for manipulating the terahertz waves Terahertz technology is being utilized in the spaceborne instruments to monitor and check the climatic conditions of our environment This needs the images of the clouds and spectroscopic characterization other molecules present in the atmosphere This is done by using remote sensing technique For satisfying the payload constraints a single and mechanically scanned antenna is attached with the remote sensing instruments FSS can be integrated with this instrument to separate the desired signal with high sensitivity and selectivity collected by the antenna The photoconductive antenna is used for generating THz radiation from the incident femtosecond laser pulses and for detection also And terahertz antennas are coupled with the bolometer for detecting terahertz radiation and also to improve the thermal performance of the bolometer In other hands THz metamaterials are also used for manipulating the incident terahertz waves Apart from this metamaterial with high-quality factor could be used for sensing biological and other chemical components Thus these passive components are generally used for modulation and manipulating the incident terahertz waves. newline |
