Abstract: | Water scarcity is a major threat to mankind due to the increasing demand for pure water by the development of industrialization and growth of population in urban areas Worldwide more than 2 1 billion people suffer by the unavailability of fresh water In India textile industries have a major contribution to the countrys Gross Domestic Product GDP growth at the same time they discharge a large quantity of wastewater into runoff water bodies which affects the aquatic system During textile processing different steps are involved in the dyeing of fabrics Each step generates different characteristics of wastewater with different pollution load Particularly in newlinedyeing step different types of dyes are used in dyeing fabrics Generally textile industries prefer synthetic dyes with complex structures to dyeing a fabric for their high colour and fastness properties The discharge of unfixed complex structured dyes is non biodegradable in nature and it shows carcinogenicity to the environment So the textile effluents are found to be toxic to the aquatic environment and they contain high level of Biological Oxygen Demand BOD Chemical Oxygen Demand COD Total Dissolved Solids TDS and colour newline newline newline |
