High Speed Low Alloy HSLA steels are often known as Micro alloyed steel The name itself suggests alloying of elements with micro level will change the properties of steel The reason for selecting HSLA Steel depends on the purpose of cost effectiveness, thickness reduction, strength to weight ratio High strength low alloy steels attracts the research people due to its good mechanical property and its metallurgical strength The Indian defence army developed steel for a particular application which is named as DMR 249A steel This steel comes under the category of HSLA Steel There are six categories of HSLA steel where DMR belongs to a category of combined one General Properties of HSLA Steel High resistance to fatigue Good strength to weight ratio Easily weldable Good formability High low temperature resistance Good corrosion resistance High temperature creep resistance High notch toughness DMR 249A steel is indigenously developed low carbon micro alloyed steel and it is also a HSLA steel which provides high resistance to corrosion and posses high toughness, due to these inherent properties it is mainly used in ship hulls and heavy structures
