dc.description.abstractnewlineThe study is attempt to propose a complementary model of continuous newlineprofessional development programme for the rural primary school newlineESL teachers of the country It puts forward a new model of in-service teacher newlineeducation viz Voluntary English Language Teacher Forum VELTF which newlineis a learner-centric learner-initiated and learner-participative system of CPD newlineThrough this research an attempt has been made to address the lacuna in the newlinecurrent pre-service and in-service teacher training programmes offered by the newlinecentral and state government agencies such as Sarva Shikha Abhiyan SSA newlineDistrict Institute of Education and Training DIET and State Institute of newlineEducation Research and Training SCERT The cascading and lecturing newlinemodel of training and mass teaching techniques used in the current teacher newlineeducation programmes fail to address the individual developmental needs of newlinethe practicing teachers Therefore it is necessary to device a teacher newlineempowerment model that will address the individual developmental newlinerequirements of the rural ESL teachers It is against this background that the newlineresearch has been conducted The study hypothesizes that the current INSETs practiced in India have not addressed the specific CPD needs of the rural primary school ESL teachers and therefore there is a felt need for an alternative CPD model newlinewhich is more learner-centric learner-initiated and need specific newline newline
