Abstract: | Electrical energy is the most important form of energy in this newlinemodern world. Electricity is used in residential, industries, medicines, newlinetransportation and commercial. Consumption of electrical energy has been newlineincreased with the increase of industries. As a result, there is an increase in newlinethe interconnection of electrical networks and power demand. With the newlineincrease of electrical power, increasing the transmission and distribution lines newlineto which the fault will be increased. This increased fault current can cause newlinesevere damage to the electrical components in the power system. For newlineeffortless monitoring of the complex interconnection of distribution network, newlinesmart grid plays a major role. Fault current limiting can be achieved by Fault newlineCurrent Limiter (FCL) in smart grid through IoT in distribution network. newlineIn early days, fuse was used in power systems to protect the equipments during fault condition. Fuse cannot withstand for high current and it must be replaced after every fault occurrence. Mechanical circuit breaker newlinewas the common solution in the power system protection. Circuit breakers newlinehave arching phenomena and bouncing problem which makes the system newlineunreliable and inefficient. Nowadays, Fault Current Limiters (FCLs) are newlinewidely used to limit the fault current levels in the power system. A fault can be defined as, any abnormal condition of an electrical power system that causes severe damage to the circuit breakers, transformers, newlinetransmission lines, etc. The fault can cause an unbalance and block out of the newlinepower systems. FCL is a device, that is connected in the power system and it newlinecan be used to minimize the fault current amplitude during fault condition. newlineThe FCL provides very low impedance under normal condition and provides newlinevery high impedance under fault condition newline newline |
