dc.description.abstract | Increasing trends of acquiring new pathogenic characters and newlineadaptation of microbes facilitate their survival in the host as well in the newlinecommunity even against human interventions to control infections and newlinespread In the developing countries even though urbanization and improvised newlinemedical practices are able to mitigate this problem there are still pockets such newlineas slums and unhygienic peripheral locations in cities that provide favorable newlineenvironment for proliferation of emerging pathogens like diarrhoeagenic E newlinecoli DEC Worldwide DEC is responsible for about 25 of mortality newlineamong 1625 million deaths due to diarrhoea in children below 5 years of newlineage Many survivors suffer malnutrition as a postinfectious morbidity leading newlineto poor mental and physical health For the past two decades the predominant newlinepathotype of DEC enteropathogenic E coli EPEC which causes protracted newlinediarrhoea and which is refractory to oral rehydration therapy ORT remains newlinea major cause of infantile mortality and morbidity However indigenous newlinestudies are lacking especially on clinical newline newline | en_US |
