Abstract: | The present study investigated the educational orientations (i.e. andragogic or pedagogic) of student teachers and teacher educators of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (Delhi), Maharshi Dayanand University (Rohtak, Haryana) and Chaudhary Charan Singh University (Uttar Pradesh). The study was delimited to the investigation of educational orientations of student teachers and teacher educators of B.Ed. (Bachelors of Education) programme only. The study employs mixed methodology (both quantitative and qualitative) research design based on Sequential Explanatory design. Data was collected through questionnaires, interview schedules, observation schedule and checklist. The findings of the study showed that student teachers of B.Ed. programme have andragogic orientation, whereas teacher educators have pedagogic orientation. The teacher educators were using pedagogic teaching methods rather than andragogic teaching methods. This is supported by both survey and interview results. Moreover, evidences of the same is seen from the results of student teachers survey on teaching method where they were asked to rate their teacher educators frequency to use andragogic and pedagogic teaching methods. On observing the pedagogical practices of teacher educators in real settings, it was again found that teacher educators have pedagogical orientation and are using pedagogical methods while teaching their students . |
