Abstract: Education is one of the powerful instruments of social transformation. The quality and rapidity of social transformation, however, depends on the quality of education. Research support is indispensable for improving the effectiveness of teaching. Research on teaching, therefore, has assumed significance during the latter half of the present century. The class room learning behaviour of students has been perceived as a missing link in reviews of research on teaching. The present study is a modest attempt to bridge this gap. The present study attempts to answer two substantive questions. Do students belonging to different socio-economic status differ in their classroom learning behaviour? If so do they differ in their achievement in science? newline In the study the classroom learning behaviour of students from high and low socio-economic status has been analysed and its relationship with their achievement in science has found out. The classroom behaviour and achievement in science of the students belonging to low and high socio-economic status has been examined. Students out of school achievement in science related efforts and its relationship with their achievement in science is another area of focus of this study. Relationship of students achievement in science and students classroom learning behaviour has been covered as concomitant variables. The relationship between students classroom learning behaviour and their socio-economic status has also been proposed to be covered. So, the students get new focus in the study. Null hypotheses were framed as research on student classroom learning behaviour in relation to students and achievement in science is a recent phenomenon and results are yet to be synthesised to develop consistent result. newline newline
