Abstract: Proper nutrition and exercise are widely known to prevent and reverse the ubiquitous national degenerative disease In the present context hyperlipidemia one of the major underlying causes for several chronic diseases including coronary artery disease and thus leading to cardiovascular diseases newlineis an elevation in atherogenic lipoprotein particles including cholesterol cholesterol esters and triglycerides and low HDLcholesterol level The present study was carried with an objective to reduce newlinethe lipid parameter levels with food based approach The study was conducted at Care Hospitals Hyderabad and 1000 subjects of both sexes were selected in the age group of 35 to 75 years and had a cholesterol level of greater than 200 mg dl Data was collected on demographic profile dietary pattern lifestyle pattern anthropometric and biochemical parameters using well structured questionnaire and interview method Omega 3 and high fibre rich foods like nuts almonds walnuts and flaxseeds were used for the newlineintervention Among 441 male and 559 female hyperlipidemics most of them had education upto professional degree holding higher positions doing business and some retired personnel They were involved in sedentary activity belongs to nuclear family system with high income level Most of them newlineare nonvegetarians and used sunflower oil for cooking Alcohol consumption and smoking pattern was observed only among male hyperlipidemics Majority of the hyperlipidemics were involved in mild newlineexercise and had personal history of the disorder for 5 to 10 years along with family history and were taking allopathy as mode of treatment Body mass index showed that majority of them are under overweight newlinecategory and found to be obese Lipid parameters were high in both the sexes For the intervention study 150 hyperlipidemics in the age of 40 to 60 years were selected whose total cholesterol level was greatet than 240mg dl of which four are experimental and one control group
