Evaluation of oxygenated diesel on Combustion and performance Characteristics in a diesel engine

Abstract

This thesis aims at evaluating the effect of oxygenated diesel fuels newlineon the engine performance and emissions It also identifies the oxygenates newlinesuitable for future diesel formulations, perform limited emissions and newlineperformance testing of the oxygenated diesel blends It gives a direction to newlineselect the suitable oxygenated compounds Higher level blending of newlineoxygenates has its own disadvantages For this investigation three newlinecompounds Diethyl carbonate 2 Ethoxy ethanol and Diethyl ether were newlineselected based on their oxygen level and flash point and other physical and newlinechemical properties These three oxygenates were blended in proportions of 3 newline6 and 9 by weight with standard commercial diesel fuel The physical and newlinechemical properties of these blends were evaluated for comparison with diesel newlinefuel In the first phase simulation of the process using Wiebes newlinecombustion model for the valves closed period of IC engine cycle was carried newlineout to find the in cylinder pressures and both the experimental and simulated newlinepressures and rate of heat release were compared for validation of the model newline newline
