Abstract: | The water resources have been the most exploited natural system newlinesince man strode the earth Pollution of water bodies is increasing steadily due newlineto rapid population growth industrial proliferation urbanization increasing newlineliving standard and wide sphere of human activity Many industries discharge newlinelarge amount of metal contaminated wastewater containing heavy metals newlineoriginating primarily from metal industries electroplating alloys basic steel newlineworks foundries motor vehicles and aircraft industries Industrial effluent newlinecontains toxic heavy metals such as nickel copper zinc chromium and newlinecadmium etc When they accumulate in the human body they can cause newlineheadache dizziness nausea vomiting chest pain tightness of the chest and newlineliver damage It is also toxic to aquatic organism even at very low newlineconcentration in the natural waters The most commonly used methods for newline the removal of heavy metal ions from industrial effluents are the physio chemical methods Many physiochemical methods such as electro dialysis coagulation and newlineflocculation chemical precipitation sedimentation membrane filtration newlineflotation reverse osmosis ultrafiltration have their inherent advantages and newlinelimitation However these techniques are expensive and cannot be used to newlinetreat a wide range of industrial effluent newline newline |
