Comparative Study The Usage of Electronic Resources in the Selected University Libraries of Punjab

Abstract

The role of electronic resource in the academic curriculum of several fields is satisfactory and unstoppable among the user community worldwide. newlineIn the last several years, many research studies have focused on how library users use electronic resource or on their opinions about electronic resource in various fields. In this study, the researcher discovered the awareness and searching techniques, impact of electronic resource and services on the work/study and checks the satisfactions levels of the respondents of selected ten universities (five from public sector and five from private sector) of Punjab. newlineThe state of Punjab is renowned for leading universities in the specific fields in India. Hence, the respondents in various designations i.e. Faculty, Research Scholars and Students were randomly chosen from selected universities in the state for this research purpose. newlineA well-designed questionnaire in favor of the objectives for the present research study was distributed and collected from the sample population through personal visits and some through postal mode. Observation and interviews also was restored to whenever there needed. The researcher defined the e-resource usage skills which encompass its five dimensions namely demographic and background of the respondents, general quarries about the respondents, awareness of the respondents about electronic resource and searching techniques used to locating and accessing the electronic resource, impact of electronic resource work/studies on the respondents and satisfactions and suggestions for this research purpose. Through the collected data, the analyses were done by various statistical tests on actual usage of electronic resource among respondents of selected universities of Punjab. newlineThe results of the research study indicates that a most of the respondents i.e. 35.7 newlinev newlinepercent aware about e-resource through library orientation programs and 53.3 percent used simple search technique for access electronic resource.
