Abstract: | ABSTRACT newlineThe present study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of Therapeutic newlineLife Style Changes (TLC) in Patients with Obesity and Systemic Hypertension . In newlinethis study the researcher has selected only one aspect of therapeutic life style newlinechanges, i.e., yoga, and the patients included in this study were obesity and prehypertensive newlinepatients. The objectives of the study were to assess the pre-test newlineand post-tests weight of obesity patients in experimental and control group, to newlineassess the pre-test and post-tests systolic and diastolic blood pressure of pre newlinehypertensive patients in experimental and control group, to compare the mean newlinepre-test and mean post-tests weight score of obesity patients among newlineexperimental and control group, to compare the mean pre-test and mean posttests newlinesystolic and diastolic blood pressure score of pre-hypertensive patients in newlineexperimental and control group, to evaluate the effectiveness of Therapeutic Life newlineStyle Changes (TLC), i.e., yoga on weight among patients with Obesity, to newlineevaluate the effectiveness of Therapeutic Life Style Changes (TLC), i.e., yoga on newlineblood pressure among patients with pre-hypertension, to find out the association newlinebetween weight and selected demographic variable of obesity patients, to find out newlinethe association between levels of blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) and newlineselected demographic variable of pre hypertensive patients. The conceptual newlineframework used for the study was J. W. Kenny s Open System Model. True newlineexperimental time series pre-test post-test design was adopted for the study. newlinePurposive sampling technique was followed to collect the samples. After newlinecollecting the sample the researcher followed Probability sampling technique, i.e., newlinesimple random method to assign the patients of obesity and pre-hypertension as newlineper sample size to experimental and control group randomly by using flipping a newlinecoin method. The sample size of the study was 120 obesity patients and 110 Pre newlinehypertensive patients. Among 120 obesity patients 60 patients were in newlineexperimental group and 60 patients were in control group. And among 110 Pre newlinehypertensive patients, 55 patients were in experimental group and 55 patients newlinewere in control group. Yoga was demonstrated for experimental group and it was newlinepracticed by them daily one to one and half hours. No intervention was given to newlinethe control group meanwhile. The weight of obesity patients was measured and newlinesystolic and diastolic blood pressure of pre-hypertensive patients was checked newlineevery fifteen days to observe the difference and it was continued for six months. newline newlineANOVA repeated measures were applied to elicit the difference of weight and newlinesystolic and diastolic blood pressure within the group and between the groups. newlineFinding implies that when compared with control group the experimental group newlinehad a significant reduction in weight and the systolic and diastolic blood pressure newlineof patients with obesity and pre hypertension. There was also a significant newlineassociation found in weight and smoking and also diastolic blood pressure and newlinesmoking. The findings of the study infer that yoga is one of the therapeutic life newlinestyle intervention used to reduce weight and also systolic and diastolic blood newlinepressure among patients with obesity and pre-hypertension. newlineKey words: Obesity, pre-hypertension, TLC, Yoga, overweight, Hypertension, newlinenon-pharmacological intervention. newline |
