Abstract: newline Background: About 2.92% of Indian population is constituted by infants. Morbidities newlineduring infancy have a deadly effect on growth and development among infants. Globally, newlinemore than 0.5 million newborns die a year due to morbidities. In India, fifty percent of newlinerd newlinethem are underweight and 1/3 newline are premature. Growth and development is very crucial newlinecomponent among infants as it depicts the physical and mental development of the child. newlineObjectives: To study morbidities (ARI, Fever and Diarrhea) growth and development newlineduring first year of life. To study the impact of type and episodes of morbidities on newlinegrowth and development during first year of life. To assess socio-demographic, newlinebiological and cultural factors influencing morbidity, growth and development during newlinefirst year of life. newlineMethodology: This Longitudinal study was carried out in rural community of Kinaye, newlineVantamuri and Handignur PHC. The study period was April 2013 to March 2018. Study newlinepopulation constituted of Babies born during May 2013-March 2014. Sample size was newlinecalculated and found out to be 962 by using random number tables. Data was obtained newlinefrom mothers using semi structured pretested questionnaire. The baseline data was newlinecollected within first week of the birth and were followed up monthly intervals till the newlinechild completes 1 year. Growth in terms of weight, length, head and chest circumference newlinewere recorded. Trivandrum developmental screening chart was used for screening newlinedevelopment. Data was analysed using SPSS 20 version. Descriptive statistics and newlineinferential statistics were used for analysis. newlineXX newline newline newlineResults: The incidence of morbidities during first year of life was 14.18 episodes per newlinechild-year. The incidence of Acute respiratory infections, Diarrhea and Fever during newlinetwelfth month was 0.31/ infant-year, 0.25/ infant-year and 0.22/infant-year. The mean newlinebirth weight of infants was 2.85±0.367. The development delay were seen among 11% newlineinfants. Diarrhea was significantly associated with wasting (AOR: 1.71)
