Abstract: ABSTRACT newline newline newline newline newlineRadiography image processing is a technique used for processing radiography images using mathematical operations in which the input is a dental X- ray image or a sequence of X- ray images, such as an image frame, the output of image processing may be either a set of characteristics or an image related to the input dental X- ray image. To the great extent image processing techniques has two dimensional images used for processing. Dental X-ray is one of the very important diagnostic methods used by dental practitioners or dentists. The methods of dental X-rays diagnostic procedure is well established in the dentistry field. This is very useful to dental doctors to get extra diagnostic information against the problems from radiation to the patients. Typically, in dental X-ray images, detection of caries and other hard tissues are challenging tasks. These x-ray images have unwanted noises that lead to poor diagnostic information. The main aim of dental image processing system is to remove the unwanted noises at first with the help of robust preprocessing technique. And then the caries and other hard tissues are segmented and classified through novel segmentation algorithm and classifier. newlineIn this thesis, the data of 110 patients with their biodata from Moobika Medical College and Metro Dental Care, Trivandrum are captured, stored and retrieved for further processing. Initially, the images are in Radiovisiography (RVG) format and then they are converted into Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format using MicroDicom software. Adaptive Morpho-Histo wavelet Denoising (AMHW) is the proposed preprocessing technique used to remove the noises and also enhance the quality of Orthopantomogram (OPG) dental X-ray images. The performance metrics such as Contrast Per Pixel (CPP) Matrix, Blur Matrix, Average Information Matrix and Anisotropic Q Matrix are evaluated and their results proved that AMHW output performs other conventional methods applied on dental X-ray images.
