Abstract: | ABSTRACT newlineThe effect of research in aluminium based metal matrix composites are far reaching these newlinedays. A composite material is a combination of two or more chemically distinct phases; newlineits properties and structural performance are superior to those of constituents acting independently. newlineMetals and ceramics can be embedded with particles or fibers, to improve their newlineproperties; these combinations are known as metal matrix composites. Aluminium 7075 newlinealloy constitutes a very important engineering material widely employed in the aircraft and newlineaerospace industry for the manufacturing of different parts and components. It is due to high newlinestrength to density ration that it a sought after metal matrix composite. This research approach newlineis fabricates and manufacture optimizes the material for the application, reduces the newlinecost of the cast composite and minimizes machining costs. In this research Aluminum alloy newline7075 and Powdered Activated Carbon particles reinforced aluminium matrix composites newlineare developed via stir casting process by various proportions of reinforcement. A detailed newlineevaluation of mechanical and metallurgical characterization is carried out. Characterization newlineresults reveal that AA7075 with the 9% reinforcement has acceptable material and metallurgical newlinecharacteristics. This is due to the presence of reinforcement relatively harder carbon newlineparticles that holds grain growth. The developed manufacturability composite is evaluated newlinefor Wire cut Electrical Discharge Machining Process. newlineWire cut electrical discharge machining is often the method of choice in spacecraft newlinematerial fabrication. This process features high production rates, machining speed and requires newlineminimal operator skill. The selection of appropriate parameters in Wire cut electrical newlinedischarge machining is essential, not only to optimize the machining process in order to newlinemaintain the highest level of productivity, but also to obtain the most desirable mechanical newlineproperties of the composite. Traditionally the desired parameters are chosen based on newlinecharts or h |
