Abstract: | ABSTRACT newlineA Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is an emerging paradigm of distributed autonomous system which is a collection of power conscious wireless sensor nodes without the support of pre-existing infrastructure. These networks represent a very promising technology that finds applications in different areas. The sensor nodes organize themselves into a cooperative network and perform the three basic functions of sensing, computations and communications. Of these three domains, substantial amount of energy is expended in the communications process and much of it is for transmitting of data packets as compared to data reception. newlineWSN is subjected to various resource constraints. The constraints are energy, bandwidth, memory and processing ability. Among them, energy is of prime concern, since it is severely constrained at the sensor node and since the nodes are deployed in remote areas to meet an immediate need, there is no way in which the batteries could be replenished or recharged. Hence, energy efficiency is a key design issue that needs to be enhanced in order to improve the network lifetime. Efficient routing techniques play an important role in conserving energy at the sensor nodes. newlineAnother important issue in WSN is satisfying the QoS (Quality of Service) parameters. The QoS parameters under consideration are reliability and security. The need for DoS (Denial of Service) attack detection is observed, to improve network lifetime in terms of energy and other QoS parameters such as packet delivery ratio, delay and network life time. In this context, a novel authentication scheme to detect DoS attack is proposed, to ensure secure data transmission in WSN. The proposed authentication scheme includes malicious nodes detection, false data detection and user authentication. newlineMalicious nodes in the WSN need to be detected and blocked, if not, it drains the sensor node s battery. The proposed ACS (Authenticated Communication Scheme) establishes secure communication in cluster based WSNs by detecting malicious nodes. |
