Abstract: ABSTRACT newlineThe title of the study is Competency mapping for IT Personnel in Kerala with special reference to Techno Park Thiruvananthapuram. Competency mapping is the process that identifies the knowledge, skill and attitude of the employee to perform a specific job in an effective and efficient manner. The term competency mapping means the breaking up of the knowledge, skill and ability level of an individual to different combination to perform certain jobs. The main aim of the system is to make the employees understand his strength and weakness in performing the job. Competencies are identified within the job families within the organization. A set of characteristics a person exhibits in his performance to do a work successfully is known as competency. Competency will include knowledge, skill and attitude of the person. While competence is a set of skill and standard required to perform a job and competency is the behavior pattern by which it is achieved. newlineClassification of competencies such as Technical or Functional which focused on the knowledge, attitudes and skills required to perform a technical job in a higher level of efficiency. Technical means the manual functions that a person has to perform as part of his job. Managerial Competency is the set of knowledge, attitudes and skills which has to be possessed by an employee to perform the managerial functions like planning, organizing, mobilizing and utilizing the various available resources in an efficient manner. Human Competency is the knowledge, attitudes and skills required to work in a team which will help the employee to motivate, utilize and develop human resources; and Conceptual Competency is the ability to visualize the unforeseen aspects of business, to think in abstract levels and to plan for future business. Human competency means the behavior pattern an individual exhibit as part of his activities in a job and Conceptual competency means the proactiveness and individual exhibit in his job. newlineIndian IT industry has the success story of 30 % growth
