Liquid crystals (LC), the orientationally ordered fluids are mysterious and extremely useful providing scientist and engineers with one of the most active and fascinating fields of research. Many thousands of materials are now known to be liquid crystalline, including synthetic systems (material for display, detergents and antiasthmatic drugs) and naturally occurring materials (e.g. beetles wings, DNA, spiders webs and budgerigar droppings). newlineThe physical properties of liquid crystals can be readily altered by the relatively modest fields. The optical effect produced due to application of electric field (electro optic effect) has resulted in the development of liquid crystal displays. The extremely low power consumption, low voltage operation, low cost, fast switching response, readability in glaring sun light, compact and flat material etc are some of the distinctive features which made LCD preferable over other type of display. newlineThe proposal is aimed at detailed and systematic studies on electro-optic studies of nematic and ferroelectric liquid crystal mixtures newline newline
